18 of the Best Moments on the We the Dogs DC Instagram in 2018

We the Dogs DC   |  December 30, 2018
Posted in: DC

While we loved every post on the We the Dogs DC community Instagram this year, some of them were so special that we wanted to feature them in our 2018 recap. Here are 18 of the best moments featured this year on the We the Dogs DC Instagram account.

1. Hopper’s Takeover (and Adoption!)

Hopper at Friends of Homeless Animals

Hopper spent 9 years at the Friends of Homeless Animals (FOHA) shelter, and he held the handle this year to share his story. We continued following his story throughout the year, and we were thrilled to find out that Hopper was finally adopted in October 2018. You can follow his story in his forever home on Instagram: @hippity_hopper1.

2. Steve the Frenchie’s Pawrent’s Engagement

A very special paw-posal.

On December 23, 2018, @frenchienamedsteve held the handle and helped his dad ask his mom a very special question. She said yes.

3. Former President George HW Bush and Service Dog Sully’s Takeover.

Sully H.W. Bush, a service dog trained by America’s VetDogs, served as the companion of former President George H.W. Bush. On July 4th, 2018, in honor of Independence Day, Sully took over the We the Dogs DC Instagram handle to share photos and information about his life at Walker’s Point.

Sully also used his takeover to highlight the important work that service dogs do for their companions. You can continue to follow Sully’s story on his Instagram.

4. “Show Rescues Love” on Valentines Day.

Show Rescues Love – February 14, 2018

On February 14, 2018, the We the Dogs DC team partnered with ProFlowers and Olivia Macaron to “show rescues love.” We visited multiple rescue organizations in the DC area to surprise them with flowers and macaron cookies as a way to show them how much we appreciate everything that they do.

5. Working With the DC Dog Community to Find Basti (and other missing pups).

Basti – January 2018

It’s incredible to see how much the community is willing to do to help other dog owners in need, especially during scary moments like when a dog goes missing. When rescue pup Basti went missing, the DC dog community worked together to spread the word and assist with the search. After 17 days missing, Basti was found and returned safely to Lucky Dog Animal Rescue.

6. The “We the Bunnies DC” Take Over on April 1st/Easter.

Ronald Weasley – Friends of Rabbits

When the We the Dogs DC team realized that Easter and April Fools Day fell on the same day in 2018, we knew it was the perfect opportunity for a special take over. Friends of Rabbits, a local rabbit rescue group, took over our Instagram for the day to share photos and information about some of their rescue rabbits.

7. We the Dogs DC’s Cherry Blossom Parade Appearance.

Luau Party – October 2018

In 2018, our organization raised over $25,000 to benefit local animal rescue organizations.

15. Two Paws Up!

Two Paws Up

In June 2018, We the Dogs DC launched Two Paws Up, a searchable map of dog-friendly activities and places in the DC metropolitan area! The map is updated frequently with locations that have been recommended by the community, as well as those that have been featured on the We the Dogs DC Instagram.

16. The Release of We the Dogs DC’s “Dogs of the District” Photo Book.

Dogs of the District – Published December 2018

In December 2018, We the Dogs DC published Dogs of the District, a hardcover photo book featuring photos of dogs in iconic locations throughout the Washington metropolitan area, including Virginia, Maryland, and West Virginia. 100% of the donations raised through the sale of the book benefit four local animal rescue organizations selected by the public: K-9 Lifesavers, Lucky Dog Animal Rescue, OBG Cocker Spaniel Rescue, and Operation Paws for Homes.

17. Alan Becomes a We the Dogs DC Pack Member.

Alan, our newest pack member

In 2018, this wire haired terrier mix came all of the way from Kauai to find his forever home, thanks to the Kauai Humane Society and Lucky Dog Animal Rescue. He was fostered by We the Dogs DC team members Kat and Stella. They quickly fell in love, and Alan became the newest member of the We the Dogs DC Pack!

18. New Year, New Cities.

In 2018, a few pups shared adventures in cities outside of DC during their Instagram take overs. In 2019, our team will be sharing some very special news about our plans for the organization and how we will be using We the Dogs to help rescue pups in other cities! Stay tuned!
